What is the correct way to refer to phenotypes and genotypes in scientific writing?

Is it Curly/Plum or Curly;Plum when I am referring to phenotypes? What about genotype when they're on the same chromosome and on different chromosomes? And what if I am using the gene symbols --- is it Cy/Pm or Cy;Pm? Help!
