Did any parents not give their baby a pacifier?

my one year old still has her pacifier, and its not really a problem because she only gets it when she sleeps, but I know it has been a pain in the getting up in the middle of the night to help her find it and stuff. Or when she was little and would drop it in her car seat, she would scream bloody murder. I was thinking with the next baby, not giving him/her a pacifier at all. I mean, will the baby be more fussy without a pacifier? How has your experience been not giving your baby a paci?
