Can parakeets eat trail mix?

Jane has given good advice, with two exceptions. Because she put so much work into it, she should get the best answer vote. But two things she said are not quite accurate. For one, never leave them without food. They must have fresh food available 24/7. The veggies and fresh foods you would only want to leave out for short periods of time but the dry food, (seed and pellet mix) should be available at all times. As for the wing clipping, I've never found it necessary but if you do opt to try it for training purposes, be sure some one knows exactly what they are doing. If so, there will be no danger of them falling or getting hurt because of it. That's because a proper trim will not prevent flying and will not interfere with balance. It will only prevent them from gaining altitude. It's very dangerous for a bird to be clipped to the point where it cannot glide smoothly for 15-20 feet before settling gently to the floor in a well controlled landing.
