Working at my family restaurant count as work experience?

I'm a college Freshman and I'm currently mapping out my next 4 years. My family owns a modest restaurant and I was wondering if working part time (at least 1-2 days a week) counts as work experience. I know I'd probably get the same amount of hours and etc. somewhere else but does the fact that it's MY family's restaurant deter from that extracurricular?
