In the book lies inc, how did rachmael go from the ship to being teleported?

I am reading the book Lies inc and right after the pilot bids farewell to Rachmael and shuts the hatch. Then according to the book the head of lies inc is driving to the telepor station and all of a sudden it is Rachmael who is being teleported. Can anyone clear this up for me?
